Yesterday, September 8, 2023, 36 students from Bayorbor National High School and Bayorbor Senior High School in Mataas na Kahoy in Batangas were sent to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) due to chest pains and difficulty breathing associated with dizziness. Some students also experienced stomach pain and numbness in both feet, while a student was admitted to a hospital receiving treatment and monitoring.
Vog is a type of air pollution caused by volcanoes, consisting of fine droplets containing volcanic gas, such as sulfur dioxide, which is acidic and can cause irritation to the eyes, throat, and respiratory tract in severities depending on the gas concentrations and durations of exposure.
The DOH assures that it is working closely with the Provincial DOH Office and the Municipal Health Office to provide the needed assistance to the affected communities.
A total of 4,100 pieces of face masks have been distributed to the communities with prepositioned buffer stocks. Surveillance officers were deployed to check on the communities and further assess the health situation of the affected communities.
